Farewell Hermosa

Life works out in funny ways sometimes. It always seems to steer you towards the path you're truly meant to be on. Hermosa Beach has been home for over four months now, and it's difficult to say anything bad about it. I love it here. I've gotten to that comfortable stage where I know the ins and outs of the area, where to go for a Thursday night cocktail, and how to avoid a parking ticket. But at nearly the same time - my boyfriend and I had an unexpected epiphany. What started as a fleeting thought led to action, and that action was the decision to leave the LA area and head south, to a place that's always felt like home.

I never saw this coming (seriously!), but all it took was a kayaking excursion in Coronado and the sheer sight of that beautiful skyline to make me realize how much I love it there compared to anywhere else, and that I actually could make living there again a reality {yup, if you haven't guessed, it's San Diego!} I am certainly going to miss living steps from the sand, riding my bike all the time, and the M-F happy hours at Sharkeez, but on so many levels, this just feels right. I can't wait for this next chapter to begin!

Feels Like Summer Again

The weather out here never gets old.

In fact, I love it, even though it's predictable day in and day out. Occasionally I miss the seasons {not winter though! haha}, but overall it's been a refreshing change in lifestyle. The last few weeks have been unabashedly beautiful - warmer than the expected average. Whether it's running to the water to catch the last few minutes of a sunset dipping below the horizon, or packing a picnic lunch and laying out with good friends, I've been trying to take advantage of the beach as much as possible!

Traveling is without a doubt my most expensive hobby, but it's definitely the most rewarding. My mind never shuts off. This is probably why I find it difficult to veg out in front of the TV, or even sit down with a book for more than 20 minutes at a time. I'm always dreaming, planning, doing, and drumming up ideas. And that's how this very list came to be! My California bucket list encompasses all of the fun, unusual, new, and different.

Mr. Brainwash Art Show

It was January 1st. Over 80 degrees outside. And my best friend and I were in search of something cheap {or free} to do in LA. Imagine our luck when we parked the car in West Hollywood, only to wind up less than a block away from an abandoned warehouse that was transformed, floor to ceiling, into a free art gallery!

Mr. Brainwash began as a proprietor of a clothing store and later evolved into a street artist. A lot of his work involves modifying original art, sometimes in funny ways {like above}. It was so much fun walking through all the floors and checking out his work. I couldn't believe that it was free! We walked out with free posters and phenomenal photos.

It was a more than ideal way to kick off the new year!

Diddy Riese

Yes, indeed. The best $1.50 you'll ever spend on an indulgent dessert is no doubt going to be at Diddy Riese in LA's Westwood neighborhood. The concept is simple and sweet - you get to build your own ice cream sandwich! And the long lines and 2,500+ reviews on Yelp can't be wrong. This place is pretty darn good.

With over 10 types of cookies {including oatmeal raisin walnut and sugar cinnamon!} and 12 ice creams, it was soo hard to decide! My boyfriend went with classic chocolate chip cookies and rocky road ice cream. I sandwiched an M&M cookie and a chocolate chip cookie with cookies 'n cream ice cream.

You have to try this place at least once if you're in LA!

4 Months Later

I can hardly believe that it's been a little over 4 months since I set foot on California soil, with none other than my car and whatever else could fit in it. By far this move has been everything I wanted it to be and yet, everything I didn't expect it to be! I craved a life-changing adventure, full of unpredictability and new experiences. At first, it seemed to be one hurdle after another. Almost a test, to see if my boyfriend and I were strong enough to handle adversity. First it was my car. I'll never forget the panic that set in when my dashboard completely shut down as we were going over 65 mph on the freeway. Luckily, an exit was up ahead and we were able to pull over to safety before it completely broke down. Then it was my job. I won't go into details, but I learned that being a personal assistant wasn't in the cards for me, and that's okay.

I've since learned how to live with less and avoid the temptations of shopping when I really couldn't afford to. I've learned that you do get what you pay for when it comes to cheap shampoo! {My hair surely misses my Redken products!} And that even though I never thought I could, I can bike 30 miles in a single day, even if my legs are going to feel like jell-o after.

The journey hasn't been an easy one. But it hasn't been impossible. For every roadblock, a thousand good things followed it. Now that I'm freelancing, things are slowly turning a corner, and we both know we're 100% accountable for our success out here. And with all that said, I cannot, cannot! wait for the months to come, and am thankful for all of your support!

Red Eye to Boston

I may be stuck with a middle seat on my red-eye flight tomorrow night (woo hoo!!!!), and I may not have more than a thick sweatshirt to keep me warm when I get off the plane, but I am beyond pumped to fly back to Boston for the Christmas holiday, see family and friends, and drink homemade cocktails!

Rainy Day Bowling Outfit

Confession: I love bowling. It's such a versatile activity - great for a double date, a night out with your entourage in tow, or in my case, the answer to a rainy and beyond gloomy day this past June. We made up fake "bowling" names {we had a 'Clive' and a 'Spork Lee' in the group}, I threw down some spares and 1 strike, and it was the perfect way to kill a couple of hours! I already want to plan a trip to Lucky Strike Lanes in LA. It's crazy to think these pictures are almost half a year old, and that was the last time I went bowling!

Bowling definitely isn't one of those activities that calls for high fashion, or even cute shoes {haha}, so I aimed for a casual look that balanced comfort with style. If I were bowling at a more high-end venue, I may have dolled up even more, but for this occasion, I wore a loose-fitting, striped American Eagle top over a white cami, with cropped bermuda shorts. A glittery cocktail ring and a long gold necklace from Forever 21 was a fun addition that dressed it up a bit.

One Line A Day Journal

Writing has always been one of my favorite pasttimes, especially journaling. But too many times, I'd buy a blank book with a cute cover and write in it a few times before ultimately, losing interest or forgetting to keep up with it. Until I stumbled upon The. BEST. Journal. Ever. Before I moved in September, I bought this adorable five year journal. The concept is simple - write a sentence or two each day, for five years! And then you can go back and read what you did on a certain day and look back on how you were feeling and what you were achieving.

It's been almost three months now, and I have surprisingly not missed a single day! It's small {6 inches x 3 inches}, so I can keep it on my desk or in a drawer, and the price is right - Amazon.com is selling this journal for only $11.53! It's kinda crazy to think that if I keep up with it, it will document my day to day life until age 30!

Thanksgiving For Two

My first Thanksgiving in California was romantic and spontaneous, and even a bit improvised. With no access to an oven, or even a kitchen table, we created a cozy candlelit atmosphere around our new coffee table {that we found for free!}, with pillows for chairs. Everything came out mouthwateringly good. Especially the chicken, which was our main course - marinated in maple syrup and crusted with chopped pecans. It was refreshing to stay in for the holiday and create our own menu, without having to worry about going anywhere.

This year, I am thankful for many things and so blessed to have amazing and supportive people in my life ♥

Cap'N Crunch French Toast

After a wild night of Boston bars, overpriced cocktails, and free stand-up comedy, my sister and my friend Amber and I treated ourselves to Cap'N Crunch french toast on the pier at Hennessey's in Hermosa Beach. Dusted with powdered sugar and coated with cereal, it kept me full until dinner time! I think the only thing that would have made it perfect is some authentic Vermont maple syrup!

So good! I've been enjoying trying new restaurants out here. Next week is Thanksgiving, which seems absolutely crazy! The year is surely flying by. Although it hardly feels like winter here, I've been savoring the brisk mornings, gorgeous afternoons, and sporadically warm days.

Dutch Darling Takes San Francisco

For Halloween weekend, I flew up to the Bay Area to celebrate my girly's birthday and of course - partake in all the costumed debauchery in San Francisco! Interesting get-ups were rampant, as was the lack of available taxi cabs, but we made our way to Bourbon & Branch, a speakeasy bar with an atmosphere that completely transported me back in time to the days of prohibition. I sipped on a gin-based cocktail with hints of citrus and lemon that was so strong, but good!

Lime, in the Castro, was a clear winner for birthday bubbly and tapas. This place is always amazing. {I've talked about Lime before in this post}. We capped the night at Madrone, a quirky art bar close to our friend's apartment, for more drinks and people-watching! It was a great weekend, and I loved dressing up as a dutch girl!

Lunch at The Misfit

After biking fifteen miles to Santa Monica a couple of weekends ago, I walked around the Promenade area for a relaxing place to eat lunch. I always, always without fail, yelp every place I go. And that's how I found The Misfit.

The atmosphere is both quirky and inviting, with nude murals plastered above the bar, dark furnishings and modern globe lights, and collections of memorabilia (like old books and vintage cocktail shakers).

The comfort food selections are soo good. Perfect twists on classics. My boyfriend ordered the Ahi Tuna Burger, which comes pan seared and flavored with avocado and lemon aioli. I got the Jidori Chicken Sliders, topped with honey mustard BBQ sauce.

I think the very best part is the FREE, freshly baked chocolate chip sea salt cookies that arrive with your check. I was utterly charmed by this restaurant and can't wait to go back! If you're ever on the westside, visit The Misfit in Santa Monica!

It's crazy to think that my first full month out here has come and gone. I met Mara and Kim, and have seemingly barely scratched the surface of all there is to do out here! And while there have been lows, like my car unexpectedly breaking down on an off-ramp, I am so glad I came out here. I secretly love that I still have to rely on my GPS to get around town. And that my mind is filled with wonder and intrigue living where I live. I never thought I would love another part of California more than San Diego.

West Hollywood Double Date Night

Meeting a blog friend, eating tasty New York style pizza, and then going to see a concert was a good recipe for a night out! I've been reading Kim's blog for over two years, and within seconds of meeting, it was as if we were old friends. I love that about bloggers! Sprawled out in her cute abode with our boyfriends, we dined on Tomato Pie pizza, wine, and beer.

We saw Reptar, Cults, and Foster the People, who are definitely my favorite band of the moment. Their stage show was incredible at The Wiltern. They played every song off their album, including a dance-infused rendition of "Pumped Up Kicks."

Thus far, this night was probably my favorite in LA :)

Glimpses of My Apartment

I wanted to share some pictures of my cozy little abode in Southern California! When I first moved here, I arrived without furniture and wasn't sure where I wanted to plant my feet - West Hollywood? Orange County? I was clueless. Luckily, I found a charming, furnished sublet for a few months that's close to the beach and idyllically located to the heart of LA. It'll be hard to leave this place when December rolls around!

All The Way to Santa Monica

Over the weekend, I did something I've never done before.

I rented a pretty white and blue beach cruiser and biked 30 miles (roundtrip) to Santa Monica! My idea was definitely lofty, but I was determined to do it, even though the last time I was on a bike was for a leisurely four miles! By the end of the day, my thighs were throbbing, I had sunburns in the weirdest places, but I am SO glad I did it!

{The Strand is a beautiful, quintessential biking and jogging path along the ocean, connecting all the West LA beach cities together. We went through Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Marina Del Rey, and Venice Beach, before arriving in Santa Monica.}

Six Days and 3,000 Miles Later

Although I left the Boston area not even three weeks ago, my roadtrip to California feels so far etched in the past! My little car was fully stocked - I didn't even think everything would fit, but it did! Well, almost everything... I left behind two trash bags of clothes, and one bag with all my shoes and boots! My current shoe wardrobe is now pretty modest - 1 pair of sneakers, 1 pair of flip flops, and 2 pairs of wedges. The drive was beautiful and always changing - it went from vast farmland, to steep mountain passes, to brown stretches of desert, and then finally, to palm trees and ocean views!

Highlights (both good and bad) from the trip out west:

Sitting in stopped traffic for two hours in Massachusetts
Having the best.grilled.cheese.of.my.life at Bin 707
Finding awesome deals on hotels thanks to Hotwire and Priceline!
Driving into Denver as the sun was setting
Only eating "unhealthy" fast food once (KFC)
A morning hike in Zion National Park
Crossing into California!

I'm so happy to be here. There's still a lot to do to get really, truly settled, but I'm getting there! And sooo happy to be back on the blogging circuit. Can't wait to hear what you all have been up to over the past couple of weeks!

Newbury Street Mural

The power of blogging never ceases to amaze me. Extraordinary opportunities fall into blogger's laps every day. Blair of Atlantic-Pacific appearing in Vogue, Jessica of What I Wore getting a book deal, various bloggers getting invitations to store openings, after-parties, and fashion shows. And while my list of bragging rights isn't as long or exciting, I couldn't believe it when I got an email from an interior designer a couple of months ago:

{I love the Newbury Street photo you have on your blog. I was wondering if I can purchase the photo to use as a mural in an interior I'm doing for a client in Boston.}

Several emails later, my photo has since been blown up to a gigantic floor-to-ceiling size mural, and is now proudly on display in the lobby of an office in Boston! The original picture, ironically, was snapped as part of an outfit post I shared earlier this year.

Crane Beach

One afternoon I created a "Before I Move Away" bucket list. Visiting a beautiful New England beach was near the top of the list, so a couple weeks ago, the boy and I made an afternoon of it! Crane Beach is perched along the North Shore of Massachusetts and is drop dead gorgeous, with tiny little waves and a wide expanse of grassy dunes.

I can't believe it's already Friday!!!! Today, I'll be driving through Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, and spending the night somewhere in Iowa. We're making progress!

I'm Off to California Today!

After what feels like years of planning, I've FINALLY packed up my trunk with all my clothes and my most precious personal belongings {basically whatever fits} into my little car, and I am on the road! By the time you read this, I will have already left.

I.am.on my way.to.California. !!!!!

Planning the roadtrip was a lot of fun. The ultimate decision was to get a few looooong days of driving out of the way so that my boyfriend and I could enjoy Colorado, Zion National Park, and Las Vegas.

I'm so excited!!!

I will be honest and admit that I'm sad to leave the Boston area. I have close friends here, my parents live here, and I've met so many cool and interesting people in the blogging community over the past two years. It'll be bittersweet on many different levels. While it's going to be a wild ride and definitely a bit of an adjustment, I'm looking forward to seeing what sorts of fun I can get into on the opposite coast ;)

Portland Sights and Sweets

I'm baaaack lovelies! {my move to California is now just 2 days away, eek!!!} A few weeks ago, I ventured off to Maine for a day trip with my family. Getting in the car and setting off on a 2 hour road trip to a city I've never been to before was in a word, amazing. I need to do this more often! When I returned home, I was definitely in a massive food coma, but my heart was happy.

Hello, Portland! {Maine}. A charming little city on the water with quaint streets and dozens of boutiques.

Tips for a fun Portland getaway:

Portland is a foodie's paradise! Read reviews on Yelp for the top restaurants.
Fore Street has lots of fun window shopping opportunities and places to eat.
Sip on martinis at Grace, a gorgeous restaurant that's inside of a renovated church.
Try the weirdest flavors of popcorn you've ever had - Dill Pickle popcorn anyone?!! at Coastal Maine Popcorn Co. We got bags to go and enjoyed them with a movie when we got home.
Take the short, inexpensive ferry ride over to Peaks Island and rent bikes. If you get there early enough, snag a cinnamon roll at Peak's Cafe.

Hi everyone! I have been as busy as a bee over the summer with job stuff, pre-moving stuff, friend stuff, mini weekend trips, and everything in between. So I've determined a month-long hiatus is just what I need to get over this busy hurdle.

Birthday Party

My 25th birthday bash on Saturday night was a-m-a-a-z-i-n-g! I wore one of the girliest dresses I've ever bought - a ruched Arden B frock with a huge flower on the shoulder. Clubs are always fun for people watching, and this night was no different. We danced in a circle around a guy celebrating his bachelor party - "dressed" to the nines in a tight purple shirt, navy blue cotton shorts, and bright blue sunglasses(!!!)

I had the best birthday ever! Between tearing up the dancefloor all night non-stop, doing rounds of shots with the girls, and getting to party with my little sister (who's now 21!) it was fabulous!

Cotton Candy Carousel Summer Cocktail

For the past couple of months, I've taken an interest in the art of cocktails. The Cotton Candy Carousel is a sweet, summery favorite that's fabulous for parties. You'll want to try this immediately once you see what's in it! I started by buying a stainless steel cocktail shaker and double jigger. Here is what you'll need to pick up and have fully stocked and at the ready:

Mix all of the following into a shaker:

2 oz Pinnacle Cotton Candy Vodka

1 oz Coconut Rum {I recommend Malibu}

Splash of Grenadine

Shake up the mixture and pour into a glass filled with ice. Top off with 3 oz Club Soda.

Garnish with 3 maraschino cherries or a lime. And there you have it - the cotton candy carousel!

I think the best part about this drink is that you can really taste the coconut AND cotton candy flavors pretty predominantly! It's so good! I want to see what other drinks I can whip up with the cotton candy vodka as a base. Let me know if you end up making it!

Lush's Free Hand Treatment - O.M.G.

I heart Lush. Everything from their fizzy bath bombs to their chocolate and honey bubble bars. Unbeknowst to me, their stores offer a free 'hand treatment.' Ask and you shall receive! In our case, we were offered it!

I sat in a high-top chair at the back of the store and soon after, the pampering began with Dream Cream, a super soothing and moisturizing body lotion, followed by a brief hand massage.

Next was the Ocean Salt. This product felt amazing and is a great exfoliator. I am so so tempted to buy a container of it!

The third step was slathering on Buffy Body Butter. This was a unique one. It's loaded with shea butter and cocoa butter so it feels nice on your skin, but it's packed with ground bits of almonds, rice, and beans to smooth bumps.

After I was patted dry, a thin layer of Lemony Flutter cuticle butter locked in all the moisture. My hands felt so soft after!

Next time you're in your local Lush store, don't be shy, and ask for this! 10 minutes well spent.

Pre-Apartment Hunting

My mind has been whirring a hundred miles a minute thinking about my upcoming move. I am so excited beyond belief, but anxious to zero in on where we're going to live. In a few weeks, my boyfriend and I are tentatively flying out to Southern California to start scouring all kinds of neighborhoods!

Lively community with lots of 20 and 30-somethings

Back Bay Lunch at the Met

I'm still swooning over the delectable four cheese macaroni, served up in a cast iron bowl and topped with breadcrumbs. The fact that I went to Met Back Bay on Saturday was completely by chance. The bright red patio umbrellas and bustling lunch crowd caught my eye, and it turns out the food lived up to what one would expect of a restaurant with such an appearance.

My lunch date with blogger friend Rachael was a blast! We raved about our food as we sipped on crafty libations. I had been wanting to try a Blood Orange Cosmo for the longest time, so I went for it. It was a bit tangy and the drink was well-balanced.

The convenient location between Dartmouth and Newbury Streets led us to shopping heaven after we finished our meal! {Newbury Street has all the best stores... hands down, plus tons of cute little boutiques.} In closing, Met Back Bay is a must try for lunch!

Pole Dancing Classes

It's been over three years since my very first pole dancing class. I remember walking into the beautiful, dimly-lit studio, instantly intrigued by the high ceilings and rows of poles. Taking a class like this, especially without a friend in tow, seemed a bit intimidating. There are certainly some aspects of it that really surprised me. Once all was said and done, I never learned how to go upside down and I never actually bought my own pole, but it was a really fun style of dance to learn.

* Upper body strength like whoa! I never realized how much your shoulders take a beating in pole dancing. The amount of strength you need to lift your body and spin around the pole is more than I expected. In every warmup, we did specific exercises designed to help our shoulders. It's easy to strain your muscles if you're not careful.

* Class diversity. It wasn't a bunch of strippers running around in slutty outfits. In fact, classes generally ranged from girls as young as 18 to as "old" as mid-40s. Dress code was usually yoga pants and a tank top or t-shirt.

*Walking the walk. Classes were of course based on learning sultry pole moves, but I also learned how to perfect a "sexy walk". While it felt funny strutting towards my reflection in the mirror, it was a fun way to loosen us up during the first class.

*The spins are harder than they look. Pole dancing looks so easy but it's extremely technical and challenging! {Watch Tara Karina, my favorite and very talented YouTuber}.
I nailed the beginner Fireman Spin after a few tries, but the subsequent moves we learned were more difficult! But they really look so simple!

*It's unbelievably fun, but expensive. If you have the chance to try a pole dancing class, by all means, do it! It's a blast. My favorite part was at the end when the instructor would play music for 10 or 15 minutes and let us freestyle to it and practice everything we learned. The cost of classes prevented me from sticking with it in the long-term.

Lazy afternoons at the lake are always a blast and it was even better than usual since one of my best girlfriends was up for a long weekend. Although the water was just a tad too cold to get in further than our calves, it was just as great to lay out on the chaise lounges, relax, drink, and of course, take tons of pictures!

Budget-friendly tip: I got my Caribbean Joe hat on clearance for $10 at TJ Maxx! I couldn't resist the colorful scarf thrown around it.

Sexy Dresses a la Forever 21

This summer I have plenty of excuses to dress up - July is my birthday month {yay!}, Katy's upcoming bachelorette party and then wedding, and a planned overnight in Vegas during my roadtrip out to California!

I'm Kind of Obsessed With Cocktails

Boston has a fairly burgeoning drink scene with so many gorgeously crafted cocktails, that when I had the chance to taste some of 28 Degrees' signature creations this past winter, I was SO on board.

My favorite drinks tend to be classic concoctions - Cosmopolitans, Lemon Drops, Vodka Cranberries, and so on. But I'm always intrigued by an enticing menu that goes beyond what we know and love.

Other than dawning a flirty cotton dress, it's safe to say this preppy look wholeheartedly defines how I prefer to dress in the spring and summer. It's easy, casual, and fun. The attire was perfect for some R&R in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire with my family. And the roadtrip up there was an ideal excuse to blast new Death Cab for Cutie and Foster the People - two bands I can't get enough of lately.

Third Times a Charm {big news}

I don't know how I can share this without inevitably wanting to jump up and down and shout it from a rooftop! Back in April, my boyfriend and I had been looking at apartments in the Boston area and ended up falling in love with two places.

Coincidentally, just days later, the company I work for decided they are going to relocate...
to CALIFORNIA!

Rather than being forced to choose between potential, apartments, it came to a matter of choosing states. And the decision was easy.

I am moving (!!!)

And in less than two months!

The path I now envision for my future is completely different, but in a wildly exciting way. Starting over somewhere fresh always seems a bit daunting, but I feel ready to jump in with both feet. I can't wait to drive cross-country again. And call the west coast my new playground.

My blog will continue to focus on fashion, travel, cocktails, and local events and nightlife, only "local" will no longer be Boston, but wherever I end up in CA. I hope you'll stick around.

Savvy Styling at Banana Republic

The After 5 event I co-hosted at Boston's Banana Republic store was a sea of white wine, shoppers, and sale prices! Our ultimate goal was to assist customers with finding stylish spring attire to add to their wardrobes. It was fun to help women put outfits together - one in particular confidently described her personal style as "boring." I swiftly grabbed a few tops for her to try on that were decidedly outside of her comfort zone.

Although I didn't win the free weekend trip to LA, I had a blast chatting up the Virgin America girls, who ironically were from San Diego. Banana Republic has partnered with them to create brand new uniforms for their airline stewardesses - so neat! {shown below are the old uniforms}

Tucker for Target Dress

It's been awhile since I indulged in a serious shopping spree. There's so much that I want (like new foundation, trendy tops from Forever 21...), but I've started to become a little more frugal about buying material things. I'd rather put my "fun money" elsewhere - into a trip, or an activity or experience I can make real memories out of.

Occasionally though, I stumble upon a little find that's worth spending the dollars on. I casually walked over to the clearance rack at Target one morning, and there it was... the much-loved Tucker for Target floral print dress for 75% off!

In true San Diego style, I paired it with an Old Navy belt and flip flops for a casual dinner in downtown, but I'd definitely dress this up the next time I wear it! Perhaps with my Teanna wedges or a pair of knee high boots in the fall?

When I rent cars on my trips, I can't live without having a couple of CDs on hand since I despise and dread the radio. Vegas: Where to Stay, Drink, and Play

Vegas is one of my favorite party destinations. I've been a handful of times over the past 3 years and wanted to share some of my opinions. Planning a trip? You've come to the right blog post!

Where to Stay:

* The Palazzo was magnificent. I'd stay there again in a second! Friendly staff and gorgeous rooms (all are suites!)

* Mandalay Bay. This hotel is so beautiful and feels very clean. The only inconvenience is its location, positioned at the very end of the South Strip.

I have also stayed at the Rio (okay, budget-friendly choice with a free shuttle to the strip), Treasure Island (average hotel, nothing special about it. I also got trapped in an elevator during my stay), and MGM (hotel is nice but feels huge - because it is, and has a sort of business-trip feel to it, rather than a place you would go for a vacation or to party).

How long should I stay? If you take full advantage of the Vegas experience, it will burn you out SO fast. In a good way! In my opinion, a weekend is perfect, but if you've never been before and really want to see it all, I'd recommend at least 4 nights.

What Shows to See:

Anything by Cirque du Soleil. I hear O at The Bellagio is romantic and visually stunning, while Mystere (which I've seen twice and loved) is fun and entertaining!

If you want a dose of naughty, Peepshow is so fun with just the right balance of raunchiness. The audience is almost 50/50 men and women, so it's a great choice for a date night or even a bachelorette party.

Where to Eat:

Brunch Buffet: You can't go on a trip to Vegas without experiencing an infamous all you can eat brunch. Try Le Village Buffet at the Paris Hotel. They are also famous for their crepes!

Swanky Dinner: All I can say is... this was one of the most memorable meals of my life, that's how good it was! N9NE Steakhouse at The Palms. I got the stuffed chicken breast with a side of truffled macaroni and cheese. And of course, a $15 pomegranate martini!

Where to Drink:

Frozen Drinks: Kahunaville at Treasure Island. Yummy raspberry margaritas. They often throw in a free test tube shot of tequila.

Martini: White Chocolate at Olives in the Bellagio Hotel.

Where to Party:

XS in the Encore Hotel is the most incredible nightlife experience. To get on the guest list (highly, highly recommended, go to Napkin Nights.) We got in line BEFORE opening, and the line was probably 40-50 people deep. And this was on a Monday guys!!! With the guest list bonus, we cut the line and felt like we got the VIP treatment, without having to pay.

The club is gorgeous, with huge indoor and outdoor spaces, go-go dancers, a bunch of dancing poles, and a large dance floor that overlooks the pool.

Other nightclubs I hear tons of great things about are Tryst at the Wynn, and Tao at the Venetian.

Jet is a club I wouldn't go back to. The layout was strange (they have their VIP tables IN the dance floor so it gets crowded and awkward).

Where to Shop:

I love LOVE the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace. This elegant mall is loaded with high-end shops. Marc Jacobs, Juicy Couture, you name it. It's a fun place for window shopping, that's for sure.

For more budget-friendly shopping, the Fashion Show Mall is connected to Treasure Island and has my usual favorites - like Forever 21!

Where to Pool:

Vegas is infamous for their pool scenes. Mandalay Bay has a wave pool and a sandy beach. Several hotels boast "day clubs" with DJs and cover charges. I love the pool at the MGM. It has a twisty, lazy river and huge yellow floats (which normally cost $, or you can just grab someone's abandoned one!). Plus, you can float along with a huge frozen drink in hand and life will be pretty blissful!

From Martini to Finish

One thing I don't think I could ever take for granted is getting together with my family for dinner. With two sisters away at college, it's a rare but fun occasion. One of my favorite restaurants in New Hampshire just so happens to specialize in delicious comfort food! Ironically, I forgot to take pictures of my meal itself {a chicken breast drizzled in an apple cider glaze and crusted with walnuts and a thin layer of cheese...} :)

Start ~ I am still having dreams about this Cherry Lemon Drop martini, mixed with Stoli Wild Cherry vodka, Limoncello, Lemon Juice, and soda water. The drink was sweet and girly, yet perfectly balanced.

Finish ~ Perhaps one of the most distinguishing and AMAZING things about The Common Man is the fact that they give you free, homemade white chocolate for dessert. You can also grab a bar on the way out for only $3!

I also can't get enough of the atmosphere. It's like you're dining in someone's home - it's cute, quaint, and cozy. Love.

Cinco de Mayo

I guess you could say me and Mexican restaurants have been through many infamous milestones together. My first alcoholic drink ever - ordered right over the border in Tijuana. My first shot (a red-headed slut at a local favorite). It was the chosen cuisine for my 21st birthday. And who doesn't love a tasty frozen margarita?!

In past years we've celebrated Cinco de Mayo with fiesta themed cookouts and dinner and drinks at our favorite Mexican restaurants. Will you be doing {or drinking} anything fun to celebrate?

I recommend party beads and a Tequila-based drink at the minimum.

The Wide Leg Trouser

One spring trend I'm completely embracing is wide leg bottoms. I've had this dreamy light blue pair for over five years. Hung on a circular clearance rack at American Eagle, I snatched them up for under $20, and rediscovered them only recently.

There's a lot of ways one can rock the wide-leg look, but I opted for a simple, understated feel, defined by a sparkly, Forever 21 sequin-embellished tank top, bright red lips, and my favorite sandal of the season - Target's Teanna heel.

Forever 21 Dresses - Too Short?

A lot of the time when I shop, I either buy online and cross my fingers that it fits, or I carefully size up a piece in-store and skip the fitting room. Two months ago, I purchased the 'Ditsy Floral Dress' online from Forever 21. The floral print and ruffled v-neck were irresistible, and hello - $19.80! {couldn't say no}

The brand is notorious for producing dresses that push the limits in terms of length. Fortunately, most of the ones I've bought have been completely okay. This one on the other hand, was a little short for my liking, but so cute to wear to an Easter Sunday lunch with my family.

Even though this sweet little number had to meet the ill fate of black opaque tights, I think it'll continue to be a fun piece to have in my wardrobe. Have any of you had issues with the lengths of F21 dresses?

As Seen in US Weekly

Yesterday one of my blog friends said to me, "I was flipping through my US Weekly, and saw an ad for US parties with you in it!"

Sure enough, there I was, on page 80! Next to me is my friend Neira. Last summer, the popular tabloid threw about a dozen Hollywood themed parties in cities across the US. Their party in Boston was a blast, held on a rooftop deck with delicious cocktails, passed appetizers, and fun giveaways. It's kind of funny to see my photo in one of my favorite magazines!

Right now, US is determining which cities they'll bring their swanky parties to this summer. Fingers crossed they come back to Boston!

Someday, Maybe Dream Job

When I was 6, I wanted to be an author when I grew up because I loved to write. Then when I turned 12, I was obsessed with becoming a famous actress. Now I'm 24 and I have to say...Samantha Brown has probably one of the coolest jobs in the world. I would so trade places with her for a day, or a week, or a month! She gets to travel e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e, staying in ritzy city hotels and cozy beachside enclaves where she wines, dines, and explores the local culture. And it's all turned into a glossy television show on the Travel Channel.

Someday, maybe I will see the world! {Next on my agenda, back to San Diego in May!}

My Monday ended with a refreshing pink lemonade cocktail, but started with getting dolled up to enjoy the 75+ degree day! I've had this high-waisted skirt forever and ever but finally wore it out for the first time. I love the thin horizontal stripes and casual side pockets. Although I don't have one, I think a bright yellow clutch would be a fun accessory for this outfit.

Sexy Spring Wedges

I don't know about you, but I love wedges - even more than heels! These 8 pairs are so incredibly versatile for spring, in classic neutrals to more punchy pinks. Successfully Purging Your Closet (while keeping it stylish)

For awhile, I had a few fashion "bad habits." I was the worst at parting with my clothes. I hung on to everything - tiny Hollister shirts that didn't fit me anymore, sweaters that used to define my personal style but no longer did, and dresses I knew I would never wear again. It was a horrible cycle and eventually I snapped. My closet and dressers were overflowing, and I wasn't even wearing half of what was in them! These are some of my tips and tricks for keeping your closet stylish, but getting rid of what you don't really need.

+ Create 2 piles. One for Goodwill, one for eBay/consignment stores so you can re-sell some of your nicer stuff. I thought this would be the hardest part of all, but it was amazing how quickly I was able to fill 3 trash bags. As for any name brand pieces? Sell them on eBay! Many of my pre-owned items will net me 40-60% of what I originally paid for the item. Not bad! (If you're in the Boston area, Second Time Around is a great consignment option and they have multiple locations).

+ Determine what you already have too much of, and downsize. Case in point - I realized I own 5 striped dresses. FIVE. And 4 of them are blue! (I swear, stripes are my guilty pleasure). Pictured below are the 3 I decided to part with.

+ Buy an under-the-bed storage organizer. (I got mine at Target for only $10!). Stow away all your winter pieces as you get ready for spring, or in my case, I work from home now and no longer need my blouses and pantsuits at hand.

Doing this practical step created room for my camis in a drawer that previously housed only long-sleeved tops.

+ Encourage yourself to get rid of clothing you haven't worn in more than a year, or never seem to reach for. You know - the pieces you glance at and think "Hmm, I'm sure I'll wear that eventually." These are the trickier closet purging decisions, but it'll get easier as you go.

Doing this little spring cleaning exercise was not only a stress reliever, but gave me a sense of peace about my wardrobe. And now I have room to add some new, classic pieces that embrace the current trends!

Desserts and Games at CandyBar

Party games are a blast. You name it - my friends and I have likely tried it! Our absolute favorite is Apples to Apples. If you haven't played this game yet, you're totally missing out.

CandyBar in downtown San Francisco is perhaps one of my favorite lounges on the west coast. It's an absolute gem of a bar that serves up sparkling drinks ONLY, mouthwatering desserts, and offers a generous selection of games to boot. Everything from Chutes and Ladders to Connect Four, to Trivial Pursuit! A built-in game night!

My ice cream sandwich dessert was made with gingerbread ice cream - it was out of this world, crazy good!

We had such a fun time here. If you plan to visit CandyBar, make sure you go during happy hour {every day from 6-8pm!} where they serve up $3 sangrias and $4 sparkling cocktails!

Mohegan Madness

On Saturday, I enveloped myself back into the unrelenting casino world in celebration of my little sister's 21st birthday!

We partied with frozen tropical drinks at Margaritaville {the same place where I got that sexy balloon hat haha}, flitted from slot machine to slot machine, and bar-hopped from place to place. We couldn't help but duck into their mini mall too, where we smelled new perfumes at LUSH and looked at a trove of trinkets in The Farmer's Almanac Store.

The night was wildly fun and I felt like it brought us closer together. I love casinos! Truth be told, a part of me misses Vegas, but how convenient that Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods are only a 2-hour road trip away!

Seven Hills Punch

Mid-week cocktails are the best thing ever.

Punch drinks remind me of indulgent, tropical vacations. They also bring back memories worth reminiscing about. Like the time when I was laying out on a remote Caribbean island sipping on a Painkiller.

A few nights ago, I couldn't help but try the Seven Hills Punch at Foundry on Elm, a popular after-work place in Somerville.

It was so satisfying to drink, with hints of cinnamon and citrus. Yum!

Live it Up, Drink it Down

Last night, my friends and I pretended that we didn't have to work the next day. And we went out on the town to celebrate St. Patrick's Day!

We avoided all of the overcrowded irish pubs and opted for a classy dinner at an Italian restaurant, followed by a mini bar crawl. Green was the theme of the night - green beads, green beers, green attire! We stayed out way later than we planned to but had a blast.

While I was out I also had the chance to try a drink mixed with Pinnacle's Whipped Cream flavored vodka. It was surprisingly really good! How was your holiday?

5 Cities I Want to Visit

Is it just me, or do you ever think about cities you'd love to visit? The world is so expansively HUGE, that the thought of being able to travel and see every single place seems daunting! I've put together a list (since I love lists), of 5 places that catch my interest.

Prague ~ this city captured my heart in a cheesy Mandy Moore rom-com, Chasing Liberty. Ever since, I was enthralled with this place.

Boulder, CO ~ the appealing charm of their downtown would be such a fun weekend getaway!

Los Angeles ~ although I've skirted around the suburbs of LA, I've never actually been to LA itself. Or West Hollywood. I need to change that.

Santorini, Greece ~ hello, gorgeous! I'd ride on a wild donkey a la Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and stay in an oceanfront villa.

Princeville, Hawaii ~ Hawaii has the whole package. Beauty, adventure, stunning landscapes. I've always been intrigued by Kauai.

Martha's Vineyard

Arguably one of the best summer weekend trips in the Boston area is to the lovely little island of Martha's Vineyard. I love LOVE this place. Everything from the quaint, gingerbread style cottages, to the lively pubs, and the antique carousel that used to live on Coney Island's boardwalk.

Its been two summers since my last visit, but through a stroke of good luck, I won free ferry tickets to the island at a tweetup 2 months ago! Looking back through these old photos is encouraging me to plan a return getaway to this adorable place.

Fashion Rules Party at Neiman Marcus

Last week, I went to a fun party at Neiman Marcus to celebrate the upcoming arrival of spring. Annnd I rocked red lips for the first time in my life! {Revlon's Fire & Ice}. Playing with color definitely made my very neutral outfit pop even more.

The exclusive bash featured Chambord martinis and coveted displays of gorgeous clothes and shoes - such as these eye-catching Louboutin heels.

A few models paraded around the store showcasing different looks - I noticed lots of vibrant hues, wide leg trouser style pants, and flowy tops.

Going to this party seriously made me crave spring - and the chance to wear clothes without a heavy jacket!

What trends are you most excited to wear?

I think I'm most anxious for coral and tangerine nail polishes, classic trenchcoats in a bright color, open-toed wedges, and more silky, lightweight tops that can be easily paired with a skirt or shorts.

Target Teanna Platform Heels for Spring

Target is one of those stores I can't help but leave with something I wasn't planning to purchase. Since spring is starting to feel feasibly within reach, I was delighted to stumble upon these adorable wooden platforms while I was there a couple of nights ago.

They remind me of that popular Miu Miu heel that came out a few months ago, with its thick stacked heel and open-toe style. The best part is - they are so comfortable to walk in!

The Teanna heel are now sold out at Target's website (but my store had them marked down to $9.98!).

Portsmouth

Portsmouth is one of my favorite seaside towns in New England, located a little over an hour north of Boston. The area has tons of cute, quirky shops, great dining, and lots and lots of bars. I thought it would be an optimal place to celebrate my anniversary with my boyfriend!

{Perhaps the best part of our night was not having to drive home! We stayed at The Ale House Inn. I love straying from typical name brand hotels whenever possible, and this place was so cute. The decor instantly wooed me.}

Overall, it was a happy happy anniversary! As much as I love getting on an airplane to get away, it's just as nice to go somewhere close by.

Howl at the Moon Boston

Dueling pianos, 86oz buckets of drinks, and singing along to your favorite songs all night pretty much sounds like the best excuse for a bar that I've ever heard of... ;) I spent my saturday night at Howl at the Moon.

The pianists played a lot of old classics, but they kept it current with a rendition of Lady GaGa's "Paparazzi" and of course... "Baby Got Back."

This is the kind of bar where it is perfectly acceptable to: a) get completely sloppy and b) wait in line for over an hour to get in, because "it's just worth it"!

Since we had a group of several fabulous Boston bloggers in tow, we got 3 free tables, conveniently positioned near the pianos and the dance floor, and no lines, no waiting! It was a blast mingling and hanging out with everyone.

I can't wait to go back, especially after witnessing a bar-goer doing Elvis impressions on the stage, and after seeing the wildest rendition of "Sweet Caroline" that I've ever been privy to. (It's kind of a Boston anthem).

Toasting Nine Years

Nine years ago today, we were sitting in his parent's basement and he asked me to be his girlfriend.

I couldn't be more happy to have such a supportive, loyal, and sweet boyfriend to share life with! The adventure is only just beginning.

Tonight, we're staying in a modern boutique hotel and celebrating our anniversary with dinner, cocktails, and dessert! I'm so excited!

Santa Cruz

Going to the beach in February is the ideal escape from the winter blues back home. When the sun finally broke through along the NorCal coast, Amber and I got out of the city and took a 2-hour road trip south to the lively little Santa Cruz boardwalk!

While places like this clearly become unbearably busy in the summer months, it struck a perfect chord between tranquil and bustling. And we didn't have to wait too long to go on any of the rides!

Wine at the MoMA

When it rains, it pours! Downtown San Francisco was a colorful mess of printed umbrellas and rain boots on Saturday. I am ashamed to say that I never felt a need for owning rain boots - until that very day. Flip flops weren't going to cut it, so I sadly had to endure the city in my slouchy suede boots, that completely soaked through(!).

The perfect rainy day activity was a trip to the Museum of Modern Art (or MoMA, as it's fondly referred to).

The highlight was a new exhibit on the 4th level featuring wine! This funky backdrop reminded me of a constellation map.

My favorite part was a room with dozens of wine bottles anchored to the wall and sorted by categories. The unique labels were fun to look at.

Then we got to smell the aromas of different kinds of wine.

Too bad there wasn't a wine tasting too!

Back to the Bay

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be bicoastal... or at least have a home on each coast. In my wildest dreams, I think it would be pretty fantastic! In the meantime, jetting back and forth between California this month has fulfilled that fantasy, if only temporarily.

Tonight I'm flying to San Francisco to visit my bff Amber. We've been friends for years, and for the past 6 months she's been living it up in the Bay Area!

Many of my close friends live in other states, but traveling to visit them certainly has its perks. I am so pumped for this weekend!

Pretty Prints

So spring hasn't exactly sprung here in New England, but it was "warm" enough to go outside for ten minutes and photograph one of my favorite printed dresses. I love this dress! The bold swirl of colors, the butterfly-like sleeves, the way it looks just as good with tights as it does without.

I think everyone has at least one (or several!) items in their closet with the tags still attached. Thus was the case with my sequin Vince dress. Marked down to $35 from $225, it was a sensational piece that had been unworn and forgotten about for months. I was thrilled to wear it to New York City last Thursday for the IFB (Independent Fashion Bloggers) conference.

One of the event sponsors was Shopbop, who were on a mission to find the best dressed attendees. I don't think I had ever been in a room with so many trendsetters at once. Stunning platform shoes, vintage fur coats, cocktail rings galore, and Balenciaga purses. It was all there!

Although the day flew by far too quickly and I was back in Boston before I knew it, it was worthwhile to mingle with blog friends, learn from the panelists, and take part in an official New York Fashion Week event!

California Holiday

The best kinds of trips are the ones that leave you feeling re-energized and inspired. Ironically, some of the best parts of my trip to San Diego weren't photographed. Like when my boyfriend and I sat at a beachfront bar sipping on drinks as we watched the sun go down. Mission Beach

On my first day in San Diego, I took a drive down to Mission Beach to watch the sun set. The parking lot was scattered with just a handful of cars, and the boardwalk was quiet, aside from a few lone joggers and a family on rollerblades. A tranquil picture compared to the popular hub it becomes in the spring and summer months.

The sunset was beautiful.

Leaving here next week is going to be so hard!

Sunday Brunch

5 years ago, the 3 of us met while working at a hotel together. We became fast friends and were inseparable at countless parties, game nights, and bar crawls. 7 months ago, Katie moved away to California. But she came back, on Friday, for a weekend-long visit(!)

The best thing about having someone live far away, is that when you do get to see them, the time you spend together is so much more meaningful.

On Sunday, we went to brunch. And I finally tried my first mimosa! I am not really a big champagne fan, nor an orange juice kinda gal, but... the infusion was pretty good!

We sat by a cozy fire and indulged in a delicious breakfast. I went with cinnamon french toast and crispy homefries.

I'm happy I got to spend so much time with my friends this weekend!

Brrrrr. I spent part of my weekend in Boston, and it was so cold! Thank goodness for a warm wool coat (with a fur-trimmed hood)! Other than tights, I think coats are my favorite fashion staple during winter.

My family and I had planned a farewell lunch before my sister flew back to Chicago for school. I'm going to miss her like crazy! We went to a cozy restaurant called Max & Dylans, nestled into the heart of the theater district. The walls were accented with sexy black and white burlesque style prints. I loved the atmosphere!

I caved and went straight for comfort food. The cavatappi macaroni and cheese was so tasty (and arguably a popular menu item!) It seemed like everyone around us was indulging in it.

It was a fun afternoon, although I have to say it - I'm ready for it to warm up!

Wine and Cheese

There's just something about cold weather that causes me to hole up inside more than necessary. Last night, my boyfriend and I had a cozy and romantic night in, complete with wine (yes, you read that right!), cheese, and crackers. Yum.

Katy was so sweet to gift me with a bottle of Polka Dot Riesling (the same wine we tried at our Girl's Night a few months ago!). I arranged a lovely spread of my favorite butter crackers, a sundried tomato & basil dip, and some squares of munster cheese.

I've never really had a quintessential "wine night" before, and I have to say, it was immensely relaxing! I'm looking forward to trying more wines (and hopefully liking them!).

The Long and Short Of It

Tonight I attended an event at the Four Seasons in Boston, with a brand new 'do! It's been a couple of years since I've had my hair this short. For awhile, I was the girl who couldn't stop coloring her hair, and since I've given the dye a rest, I thought a new style was definitely in order. Yes, I do sorta kinda miss the long hair, but it's fun to change things up. {What do you think?}

Despite the rain and sleet and snow, I loved being back in Boston. City life just flat out exhilarates me! At the event, I mingled with lots of blog friends and fashion-lovers. Since there was a predominant fashion theme, I knew I had to dress up! I decided on a simple dress with sequin embellishments around the sleeves, grey DKNY tights, and royal blue Steve Madden pumps.

I can't wait for it to be the weekend!

StyleWeek Providence Highlights

The opening of Providence StyleWeek had it all - billowy fabrics, red frosted cupcakes, and big hair. I was so excited to attend, since two Boston-based designers were showcasing their collections.

For the night out, I remixed my favorite animal print dress, but changed it up with the addition of a shrug, belt, and wedges.

Cocktail hour was complete with this beautiful cupcake display. {I was tempted to eat one, but I didn't!}

Designer Sam Mendoza, a former Boston University student who got his start making clothes out of his dorm room, came on first. The collection featured lots of silk and figure-flattering cuts.

Avni Trivedi went next, debuting eco-friendly pieces with a western theme. Her label is inspired by her upbringing in India.

All Dolled Up for the Club

There was a time in my life when every single weekend equaled an excuse to put on a sexy dress and go out til all hours with my friends. Although I certainly don't go to a club every weekend anymore, I wouldn't consider myself phased out of the lifestyle. I love to dance, I love the dim lighting, the lustful ambiance, and even the songs, and trying to talk over them!

This black ruched dress is probably my favorite to wear on a night out. It has the perfect cut, accented with pretty sequin embellishments. It was my dress of choice for two birthday parties, and even a night out in Vegas!

Occasionally, comfort outweighs everything, and I opt for shorts. This cuffed pinstripe pair goes with so many things. I can dress them down even more with flip flops, or add some height with wedges.

I'm just under 5'5", so when I add a pair of heels to my look, it takes everything to a whole new level.

Some of my other favorite clubbing looks feature the desirable colorblock trend. This dress was basic, but fun with a bandage style.

After a lovely lunch in Beacon Hill with local fashion blogger Katy Rose, I couldn't wait to take out my new Canon T2i (one of my favorite Christmas presents!) and roam around the Boston Common. Mustard is such an eclectic color - one I don't wear a lot of, but always admire on others. It was hard not to pass up the playful ruffles and $13 price tag of this skirt! (buy it here)

The Common ebs and flows with the change in seasons. On this brisk, wintery afternoon, it was a wonderland of snowball fights and half-made snowmen.

A purple collared shirt from Forever 21 offered some structure, while black sweater tights shielded me from the 35 degree temperatures! My Steve Madden suede booties were last seen in this outfit post. They are so comfortable and seem to go well with a lot of items in my closet.

I can't believe tomorrow is New Year's Eve! I'll be celebrating with friends, paper tiaras, and fruity drinks.

Wishing you all a safe and festive holiday weekend! Other than planned gift exchanges with my family and boyfriend this morning, I'll be spending the day at my Aunt's house feasting on lots of food, including my Mom's yummy homemade macaroni & cheese!

Eleven Days Til '11

It feels like it was only a few months ago that I donned a strapless dress and grey grommet booties to ring in 2010. Now, Christmas is only a mere 4 days away and it's going to be that time to start thinking about 2011, and what our resolutions are and what we hope for. Some on my short list? I want to try a mimosa, because I never have in my entire life! I want to re-watch Season 1 of Gossip Girl, in all its glory. And I want to continue traveling and going places and seeing the world.

2010 was a pivotal year for family and friendship. Two of my bests moved to California, (and I got to visit them both!). My youngest sister moved to Chicago for school. Epic nights out at Mohegan Sun and Boston bars.

2010 was also a year of blog friends. I love everyone I have had the opportunity to meet!

In 2010, Steve and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary while we were in San Diego. He has always been that person in my life - supportive, encouraging, and loyal.

Throughout 2010, I polished off many a good cocktail. Everything from free cosmos on a work trip to an overpriced and underwhelming drink from the Cheesecake Factory. And I even tried a wine that I kinda sorta liked(!).

And lastly, travel. A hobby that fuels my passion, excites me, and inspires me. I flew 14 one-way flights this year and racked up 30 nights away from home. I love everywhere I go, and it would be hard to pinpoint one favorite from the places I went this year.

I am excited for 2011! What is one of your resolutions for the new year?

It's funny - when it comes to the holidays, I feel like I ride a fine line between being on the ball and ahead of the game, to complete and utter procrastination. Luckily, I made it a point to wrap gifts as I got them, so at least that part is done. (Don't they look pretty?)

Hush City

My weekend was a blur of a lot of things I like. Cocktails, Boston, and date nights! A standout moment was strolling through a quiet street in Boston at 11PM on Saturday, with a hushed ambiance of street lights and Christmas lights.

Of course, there were other standouts.

December Dragonberry Delight

I got to be a little bit domestic during my weekend in Virginia. It's kind of rare that I show this side of me on the blog, but I love decorating, organizing, and well, baking is a different story. I think the only thing I can bake well is corn muffins from Betty Crocker. Rather than a lavish and expensive night out, I helped my friend Kerrie plan an equally amazing birthday bash at her boyfriend's new home.

I wore a one-shoulder dress that I purchased at a department store in Montreal, paired with my lace Arden B leggings (seen here). Layering two colorful beaded necklaces gave the look more of a fun, party feel.

{Pink drinks were the hit of the night. Dragonberry Lemonade can be made by combining pink lemonade with Bacardi Dragonberry rum. Simple but oh so good!}

It was a quick trip that went by way too fast! Happy 25th Kerrie!

The Skinny Dip

While I was in Virginia on Friday, Kerrie suggested we go to a new self-serve frozen yogurt bar in town called The Skinny Dip. I've gone to local ice cream stands, I've walked the North End in Boston, gelato in hand - but have never gotten fro-yo from a fro-yo bar. Crazy!

I was anxious to mix and match flavors. I chose Snow White Vanilla and Cotton Candy. yum! Kerrie mixed Dark Chocolate and Yellow Cake Batter. The best part of the experience was selecting our toppings. There were so many to choose from!

I sprinkled a little bit of pie crust, crushed Reeses, Oreos, and a few white chocolate chips, while Kerrie opted for fresh fruit, brownie bites, and white chocolate chips.

I pretty much devoured the entire thing, it was so good! What's your favorite kind of frozen yogurt?

White Lights

Tree decorating with my family has always been a sporadic, spur of the moment thing. And usually we wait until December. But this year, we started early, on Black Friday! I spent the afternoon with my sisters, my Mom, and her b/f. We listened to holiday tunes and took turns unraveling all of the ornaments out of storage.

Night at the Casino

I was so ready to break out my barely worn snakeskin-patterned leggings and lace dress. All for a night of gambling, dancing, and drinks in honor of my friend Ryan's 26th birthday. We celebrated at Foxwoods, a huge casino located about 2 hours south of Boston. The night was SO much fun!

A Hint of Leopard and Chains

I am in an unbelievably good mood today. It might be because my friends and I are going to be wreaking havoc at the local casinos this weekend, (like we did 5 months ago). Or, it could be the fact that it's Friday, and one week from now I'm going to be putting up the 9 foot Christmas tree with my sisters, who will both be home from college.

A couple of weeks ago, I bought this adorable Betsey Johnson belt. Wearing it reversed allowed for this pretty leopard-like pattern to pop against my navy blue and grey outfit. The Twelve by Twelve pleated skirt has a raw edginess to it with just-barely-noticeable chains wrapped into the hemline.

How do you like to infuse animal prints into an outfit?

A Funky Side of San Francisco

San Francisco is known for a lot of things - infamous for its bridges, morning fog, and steep hills, but it also has thriving neighborhoods adorned with eclectic shops, cafes, and street murals lining vacant alleyways. I spent a few hours walking around the Mission District, and up and down Haight Street. I was in awe of the scenery. I can't say I've seen anything that even comes close to this in Boston!

The ferry ride over on the day prior was so windy - my hair couldn't catch a break!

Here, these huge murals are acknowledged and appreciated by the community as art - not graffiti, which is decidedly a more negative term.

It was so much fun to take in the bohemian/hippie culture on Haight Street. Everything here, from the street style, to the types of stores, had a very different feel compared to the more mainstream city neighborhoods.

Next time I visit, I'm taking a tip from Nicole and making it a point to get some yummy Mexican food in The Mission!
